What this site stores about you

Nothing. There is no account, no sign in, no cookie, and nothing in local or session storage. No advertising and nothing that follows you from one visit to the next.

Visits are counted, by Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is the one thing these pages load from anywhere else. It is described below.

There is no form on this site either, which is why there is no section here about what a form collects. If you write to the address below, that message is an email between you and Dalaric and it is handled like any other: read, answered, and kept only while the correspondence is useful.

The address you type into the check

It is used to make the three requests described on the about page, and it is put into the address of the result page so that you can send that link to whoever looks after the website. That is the only reason it is in the address bar.

Because it is in the address, it appears in the request logs that any web host keeps, in this case Cloudflare's, alongside your network address. Those are ordinary server logs kept for security and for operating the service. Nothing is stored against a name, no profile is built, and no record of what you checked is kept anywhere else.

Result pages are sent with instructions not to store them, so a shared or public browser does not keep a copy for the next person.

Counting visits

Each page loads a small script from Cloudflare that reports the page you opened, the site that sent you, your browser and device type, the country the visit came from, and how quickly the page loaded. Dalaric sees those as totals, such as how many people read a guide last week. It is how we know which guides are worth the time.

It sets no cookie and stores nothing in your browser, so it has nothing to recognise you by when you come back, and Cloudflare states that it collects no personal data through it. Cloudflare also states that it does not record the part of a page address after the question mark, which is where the site you checked appears, so the count does not include which sites people check.

Cloudflare is already the host of this site, so this does not add another company to the ones handling your visit. Blocking the script, which most content blockers do, changes nothing about how the site or the check works.

What is read from the site you check

Up to 320 bytes of each of three responses. It is examined to tell a git file from a web page, and is then discarded. It is never displayed, never logged and never sent anywhere. See the about page for exactly which addresses are requested.

You have the rights the UK General Data Protection Regulation gives you, including the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office. Given that this site holds no account and builds no profile, in practice there is very little here to exercise them against, which is the intention.

Changes

If what this site does with data changes, this page changes with it. It is short enough to read again.
